[ˈhɛə.nə ˈlɪ.pɚd] or [ˈhæ.nə ˈlɪ.pəd]
I am a 4th-year linguistics PhD candidate and teaching assistant at UCLA. My research interests include semantics, pragmatics, language documentation, morphosyntax, and the Bantu language family. I wrote my MA thesis on the pragmatics of object marker doubling in Cinyungwe, a Mozambican Bantu language. I’m writing my dissertation on polysemy between disjunction, negation, and epistemic modality in Cinyungwe.
I prefer feminine or neutral pronouns (she/they). Beyond linguistics, I like speculative fiction, roller coasters, animals, piano, and board/video games. I join those demanding the abolition of policing on campus and an end to our university’s investment in genocide and imperialism.
